Here we go again! Another round, another gift!

Yes, dear friends, today I am once again faced with the difficult task of choosing a school, but this time it is not dependent on a change of house, city, country, but rather a consequence of growth (fast, sudden, exponential!!!). The choice of high school has arrived. This brings me back to the time when I was preparing to make this choice… choice? What choice! In our house only the Liceo Classico was democratically considered, and just as democratically all three of us as children went there… no popular uprising, no coup d’état. The Institute? The one close to home!

As a parent today, I realise that it is difficult to direct a child in the right way, I know that today’s inclinations may (almost certainly) not be those of tomorrow.

Then, once the subject has been chosen, there is the choice of school: public or private? Do you prefer languages or didactic workshops? Four years or five years? Difficult! Moreover, you are dealing with a “convinced” teenager, who sometimes reasons in a surprisingly mature way, and at other times spouts what I call “pearls of wisdom”, such as: “My friend wants to go to the scientific, humanistic and sports high school, a bit of a chemistry course but with Latin… ah, and also a bit bilingual”… and concludes by telling you that she would like to do it!

But then comes the question: “My dear darling… why would you want to go into this bizarre and improbable field? Answer: “Well, it seems to me that everything is there… and above all my friend is there! And that’s where you need to stay calm!

In any case, I would like to suggest to you parents who are about to choose a school, be it primary, middle or high school, to always choose the school whose philosophy you share and in which you have full confidence. The problems and the small dynamics of growing up will pose small obstacles, which will only be brilliantly overcome if school and family work together and support each other. However, thanks to my experience at school, I have certainly become a very open-minded person… I gave my daughter a wide range of choices… between Classical and Scientific! Very democratic, isn’t it?
